A car crashed into a fire hydrant at 30 Country Club Road and Firethorne Lane in Sandwich at 3:41 PM on July 3, knocking it completely off its base, according to the Sandwich Fire Department. The crash did not set off water flow because the valves on hydrants in the northern states are very low to the ground, Fire Captain Scott F. Ames explained.
